How many of you single parents have made Wills, and at which age did you start thinking of making one?

What other preparations have you made for the future of your children should something happen to you?

Regardless if you have a will drawn up or not you should at least have it designated who will raise your children if any thing were to happen to you. This will prevent your children from entering foster care if you were to become severally injured or die. Also any bank accounts or money should be secured to go into a trust, this includes life insurance or company policies.

It really depends were you live, here in British Columbia, Canada if something were to happen to the parents. The child would have to pay 40% of the properties value to receive title of it and that is A LOT. So what parents do here in BC is write their child in the house, car, etc.

that way if something were to happen they wouldn’t have to pay a huge amount of money. Although there are some risks you should consider when doing this, such as if they get a girlfriend/boyfriend and live with them for a certain amount of time that partner can be entitled to part of the property.
