Every department has different policies regarding promoting to Detectives. You have to work in patrol for a certain time in order to be bumped up, if there is an opening, to the section you are interested in. They might require you to have base or intimate knowledge in computers in order to work in computer crimes. Fraud, Forgery, etc. you might have to have instructional courses before being promoted to that bureau. I personally would call and ask to talk to a hiring officer about it. Good luck!
